Reusing a villa
The historical layers of the former “Istenszeme Inn“ carries traces of various eras and functions, which are still readible in the current building and its surroundings. Our aim was to recontextualize them through small-scale interventions, thereby adding a new layer to the narrative of the site. To ensure year-round use and self-sufficiency, the program includes forest grazing to maintain the 4 -hectare plot, supporting forest health and creating a more open, accessible woodland without intensive landscaping. The operation of the building would be ensured through a residency program that offers temporary accommodation and creative space for artists, ensuring ongoing human presence. Their lodging is placed in a newly designed volume, whose placement also repositions the role of the original structure. The existing building’s layered outdoor connections allow it to operate in flexible units.
