Community house

When reusing existing buildings, a key challenge is defining the time frame of design, as the needs of a neighborhood change rapidly and large-scale monofunctional buildings struggle to adapt. In response, when reusing an old school building in the outskirt of Budapest,  the design proposes a strict floor plan system — preserving the original symmetry — to ensure long-term flexibility. Two axes divide the building into four symmetrical units, each accessible from  both the main square and nearby schools. Within each unit, restrooms and circulation are positioned consistently, while the surrounding spaces can change in function. The program relocates the current community center into the building, expanding it into four themed parts: a children’s house, a music house, a workshop house, and a sports house.
